How to write a caption and why captions are important

In class, we took a lot of time discussing why captions are so important and the best way to write them for example we went into the detail of writing a basic caption versus an extended caption. when writing a caption it should also include the 5 W, who, what, when, where, and why it should also include a how. In a caption, there should be an action to lead, basic information, and complementary information. The first sentence should be in the present tense, second and third sentences in the past tense. Words such as several, a lot, some should not be used in a caption. The reason why captions are so important is that they are the most read copy in a publication even though they are short it is important to spend time on them so that you can write a proper caption.

How to prepare for an interview

when it came to learning what we need to do to prepare for an interview we learn that it is best to always ask for permission to second the interview just in case the person later change their mind and accuse you of lying so if the interview is recorded you will have evidence that you did not tamper with their answer. In an interview, it is always great to have quotes and the best quotes are the meaningful ones, some ways to get meaningful tips would be to explore story ideas when interviews don't stick to basic stories look for interesting stories.  In class we had the assignment to interview one of our classmates before the interview started I had to ask my partner if they are ok with me recording their interview then proceeded to tell them the question I will be asking to make sure that they are comfortable with the questions.

The importance of copy

When it comes to telling a story the visual aspects and pictures are not enough to give a good description of what is happening in the story. Due to the fact that everyone can interpret things differently having a picture with no copy the readers are left with an unlimited amount of imagination for what the story is trying to convey. The author needs to give a clear statement on what the pictures are about because when we have pictures with no copy the story can go in any direction based on the fact that not everyone thinks the same way.  To understand more about why copy is so important we had a reading assignment focusing on a different aspect that we should learn, in this assignment, we learn about the inverted pyramid, what should go in the body of a story. We also learn such as why sidebars and leads are important.

Designing the table of content

When it comes to designing the table of content, I first planned out what I wanted in my magazine that will go with the theme that I have. I built the table of content based on the theme that I wanted to focus on for context . My theme is the history of fashion and one of the things that I wanted my magazine to involve is the influence Black culture has influenced pop culture. In building the table of the content we use a ladder; a ladder is a "planning sheet" for the table of content for my magazine. I wanted it to be published weekly so for the ladder I only needed to fill out 65 pages.   The table of content acts as a bridge from the cover to the contents within the publication so it needs to be easy to read, well put together, and create a strong impression.   The picture below is a mock cover of my table of content that we did on studio work
